I am currently working on finding the parents of James Asbury Ramsey I.
James was supposedly born in Hamilton CO. TN on October 4, 1811, however Hamilton CO. was formed in 1819 from Rhea CO. I believe he was probably born in GA. and folks just assumed he was born in Tennessee because he moved to Missouri from there. James died February 16, 1878 in Holt Co. MO. He is buried at Tarkio Chapel in Fortescue, Holt Co. MO. Considering our Ramsey/Ramsay DNA project and data from other researchers, we can conclude our James was from the same Ramsey line as the William Ramsey that married Rhoda McMillion in GA.
James married Therisia "Thursy" Ellen Hall about 1841 shortly after his first wife died. He had four children from his previous marriage, three boys and one girl, Thomas A, William Hamilton, Richard and Martha. Unfortunately I have yet to find his first wife's name. He and Thursy had children James Asbury II and Nancy Arlena. James Asbury II relocated his family to Pope Co. in Southern Illinois in 1864 while serving in the Civil war. Those that moved with him included his mother Thursy, sister Nancy Arlena, Grandparents Seborn and Nancy (Smith) Hall and most of their family. Some of the decendents of the Ramsey's and Halls are still located in Pope and Hardin Counties.
James married a third time to Elizabeth Ellen Irwin in 1848 Franklin Co. MO. They had twelve children. He moved to Holt Co. MO. by 1852.
